Congressman MacArthur’s Bill to Help Korean DMZ Veterans Passes House

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman MacArthur, whose father served during the Korean War, announced that legislation he introduced to help veterans who are suffering from Agent Orange or other herbicide-related conditions has been included in the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act, which passed the House of Representatives today.

“The inclusion of the Fairness for Korean DMZ Veterans Act in the bill which passed the House today is a major victory for our veterans serving at the Korea DMZ during the Vietnam era. I started working on this issue thanks to a meeting with Garfield Harper, a Korea DMZ veteran who lives in Burlington County. This is a major step in righting a wrong that far too many veterans have lived with for too long,” said Congressman Tom MacArthur. “As a cosponsor of the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act, I am grateful to see this legislation pass. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to provide quality care for our veterans.”

Both the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act and the Fairness for Korean DMZ Veterans Act have received broad bipartisan support and have been backed by multiple veterans’ organizations including the VFW and the American Legion.
