MacArthur Announces District-Wide Reading Challenge
Washington, DC - Congressman Tom MacArthur today announced that his office will be conducting a district-wide reading challenge to encourage students to read three books by March 18th to receive an official Congressional Certificate.
“With so many distractions and commitments facing kids these days, a focus on reading is incredibly important and I want to challenge the kids in NJ's 3rd Congressional District to start the school year off right,” said Congressman Tom MacArthur. “A love of reading can improve our ability to think critically, enhance our vocabulary and make us better writers. I know firsthand that it can be hard to carve out time in your day, so I’ll be joining you on this journey and reading along with you. I’ll announce my books at the end of the challenge and hopefully get some great suggestions from our young constituents.”
“Thank you to Congressman MacArthur for putting together a Congressional Reading Challenge,” said Dr. James Roselli, Superintendent of Berkeley Township School District. “I know we will be encouraging our students to participate in the challenge and look forward to having the efforts of our children recognized by our Congressman.”
“We thank Congressman MacArthur for his efforts to promote student literacy, and we encourage local boards of education to consider participating in the 3rd Congressional District Reading Challenge,” said Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod, Executive Director, New Jersey School Boards Association.
Participating students will need to read three books by March 18th to qualify and provide a summary of what they learned from each book. To enter, district residents should go to https://macarthur.house.gov/about/district-reading-challenge, and fill out the entry form with a parent. The challenge will close on March 18th and Congressional Certificates will be mailed shortly after.
