MacArthur Reacts to News of Former Guantanamo Detainees Attacks on Americans
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom MacArthur today reacted to the news that 12 detainees released from the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have launched attacks against U.S. or allied forces in Afghanistan. News reports are suggesting as many as six Americans have tragically been killed by the released detainees.
“Recent violence against Americans is further evidence that the president’s plans for closing Guantanamo are misguided and dangerous,” said Congressman MacArthur. “The administration is releasing dangerous terrorists to countries that can’t control them, and misleading Congress in the process. The president should halt detainee transfers immediately and acknowledge the terrorist activities and affiliations of past and present Guantanamo detainees.”
