MacArthur Requests Freeze on Refugee Admissions
Washington, DC – Congressman Tom MacArthur today announced he has joined a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers calling for an immediate freeze on the admission of refugees from Syria and Iraq onto American soil.
In light of the horrific attacks carried out in France, the bipartisan coalition calls for an immediate admissions freeze until the Department of Homeland Security properly certifies that asylum seekers from these countries do not present a safety threat. In order to fulfill this requirement, the Department must provide all information used to justify admission for each asylum seeker to the House and Senate Intelligence and Homeland Security Committees and satisfy the concerns of all Committees.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and the entire nation of France,” said Congressman MacArthur. “We must remain united in combating these attacks, and the many forms they have taken, which have demonstrated the imminent threat ISIS poses to our country, our allies and our way of life. Until we can say with certainty that the individuals trying to enter our nation are refugees and not terrorists, we must freeze any incoming applications from Syria and Iraq. The safety and security of New Jersey families must come first.”
